The Sound of Technology Failing

What is the sound of technology failing? I discovered this today while trying access my home voice mail over my cell phone. Accessing my voice mail is pretty easy. Just call my home number, wait for the voice message to start and then press "*" before the message stops and wait to be prompted for a password. Works every time....

Until Today

Often, I will get distracted and forget to hit the "*" key before the voice mail kicks in to take an actual voice message. It happens. I then just hang up and call back with a greater resolve to pay attention. So that is what I did, but on the second call back when I pressed "*" nothing happened - off to the message I go. Damn! Maybe I wasn't quick enough.

Attempt Number Three

This is where the sound of technology failing first became audible. I was very sure that I pressed "*" in time for this third attempt, but nope, no nice mechanical lady-voice asking for my voice mail password.

Attempt number four? Nope.

Number five? Nada.

That is where I just gave up and decided that it wasn't me, but technology failing. (In case you wonder whether I was doing something wrong, I did try the very same process successfully several hours later. I'm guessing technology failing was having lunch or skipped out for the rest of the day.)

The Sound

Upon finally listening to my home voice mail messages, the sound of technology failing was revealed. Like a medium or channeler I had actually voiced this sound and my voice messaging system had captured it. A rarity.

(Please Note: if you are offended by cursing, then you should not listen to these recordings of the sound of technology failing.)

Conclusions

Now, if you hear this sound in the wild, you will be able to recognize it for what it actually is. This isn't just some asshole swearing at his phone, but some asshole communing with the sound of technology failing.
